BACKGROUND & ROLE

Mountain monastery by aksu

Perched atop a mountain amidst a rugged range lies The Wyverns Nest.

Huddled together as if in protection from the howling winds that can rage between neighbouring peaks, this collection of exotic buildings is secured by inaccessibility and obfuscation, for it is reachable only by a hidden path and visible from an elevation only achieved by the soaring of wings.

This most unlikely of locations is home to The Coterie, a select group of individuals skilled in foreign disciplines whose purpose remains as shrouded as they themselves are.

Adepts of mind and body and students of anatomy, The Coterie understand that lines of energy flow within the living and know how to place a blade or craft a toxin to still this flow forever. They are rumoured to vanish without trace, to mask their identity and perform feats of superhuman ability.

Yet despite their skill, secrecy remains a prime aspect of The Coterie’s power and security. Few are those who learn of its existence, and fewer still are those who retain this knowledge with breath left to speak of it.

BACKGROUND & ROLE
Founded in the year 4710, The Long Shadows have gone to great lengths to remain enigmatic, most doubt they even exist. The founding member Miro Underfoot aka Miro the Mouse is one of the high lords of the Feylands and uses his position to carefully put doubt on the existence of the brotherhood.

The Long Shadows activities consist mainly of espionage and smuggling of captives from foreign countries for a fee. But due to their need to remain secret, most captives never know who rescued them. Miro’s true passion is the rescue of Halflings from Chieliax and payment for the rescue is theft from the captures. Due to this last activity a need for fencing ill gotten gains has arisen and kept from his paladin comrade.

Leeds the long shadows while Miro attends his duties as one of the high lords. A former Chieleax captive himself his friendship to Miro and belief in the course is unshakable. His magical talent is the only wizardry within the Long Shadows and as such many anti magic traps guard Fort Underfoot. A sub terrain facility called The Hall of Shadow lies under Fort Underfoot and serves as a training ground and base of operation. Due for the need of secrecy rescued captives are never brought here. Instead they are taken to safe houses along the way and in Tatselford (the Margrave does dissuade any who chase them).

Composed mainly of rogues and rangers many people that believe the brotherhood exists also believe that is made up of only Halflings. This is not the case, any race is welcome as long as there talent and loyalty are enough to grab the attention of recruitment members. Promoting a strong brotherhood focus over a guild focus helps build this loyalty and keep its secrecy. The Long Shadows training does focus on stealth, espionage, and evasion but when combat is needed all members are deadly snipers. Using small unit tactics to strike from concealment and take down opponents quick and quiet, often using foreign country arrows and bolts to shift attention.

BACKGROUND & ROLE

Kylie symbol copyThis group of druids, rangers, warriors and bards was formed by the Lady Cael’lan Dwin’ghymn in the year 4710. They keep the balance between civilisation and the forest, between the old ways and the new. They ensure neither encroaches too much on the other. They are the guardians of neutrality and nature, of the forest and its people. They remind people of the interconnection among all things and the importance of the cycles of the seasons and of birth and rebirth.

Bards use the arts of storytelling to preserve the stories of the people, the myths and legends that told them who they were and where they came from. Stories of the old gods and goddesses and the Fae-folk give the mysterious universe meaning and ensure that even though the populace turns from them, they are still revered by action and ritual.

Druids and rangers teach the lore of healing, law, natural philosophy, and right reverence towards all things. Scholars study methods of prophecy, ritual and sacrifice, which they perform in their sacred groves of oak and ash. Fae (both light and dark), animals and trees are sacred beings to be respected for their age and wisdom and their deep knowledge of earth, water, and stone.

Based in the Elven ruins on the outskirts of the Margreve, Lysel Dwin’ghymn heads the group while his sister Cael’lan attends her duties as one of the High Lords of the Feylands. Tyg Titter Tut and Pervilash have been appointed high guardians of the Enchanted Glade and Mayors of the Royal Reserve.
