Calathes was born in the great City State of Absolom to two half-elven law clerks. He was given proper formal education and offered an apprenticeship as a clerk from the age of 10.
By 18 he was working a junior lawyer in the Halls of Judgement and proved himself to be a skilled debator and dooged researcher. He gained the attention of several factions; powerful guilds, nobles and merchants who wanted him to be on their payroll. He turned them all down to take a position as a Common Defendent, a city appointed lawyer for poor citizens.
